Hydrosols
What is hydrosol?
Hydrosol, also known as floral water, is a byproduct of steam distillation using natural products. It is less concentrated than an essential oil, but captures a similar essence. Hydrosol contains all the essence of the plant in every drop.
How do we make hydrosol?
We make hydrosol through the process of steam distillation. Most batches are made with about 3 gallons of water and 2 pounds of plant material and result in 48 oz of hydrosol. Each of our batches take 3 hours to distill and are stored for 3 months for the development of the hydrosol molecules.
What is hydrosol used for?
This water-based product has many uses. It can be used for skin care, hair care, aromatherapy, cleaning, food and drink, wound healing, insect repellent and deodorant.
What are the beneficial properties of hydrosol?
Each of our blends have their own unique properties.

Our Distillation Process
Hydrosols are created through steam distillation, a process that gently extracts aromatic compounds from fresh plant material.
We begin by harvesting herbs at peak freshness from our raised planter beds on the farm. The plant material is then placed inside our distillation unit above heated water. As the water boils, steam passes through the plant material and pulls aromatic compounds, beneficial plant molecules, and natural oils with it.
The steam then travels through a condenser where it cools back into liquid form. This liquid separates into two components: essential oil and hydrosol. Because our process focuses on the water portion of the distillate, the resulting hydrosol captures the plant’s aroma and beneficial properties in a much gentler and more versatile form.
After distillation, the hydrosol is stored for several months to allow the aromatic molecules to stabilize and develop into a balanced final product.
