Overview
The Farmers Market Liaison & Farm Hand position is responsible for representing Frog Bench Farms (FBF)® at farmers markets and serving as the primary point of contact between the farm, market management, vendors, support staff, and customers.
This is a hands-on leadership position that combines farmers market operations, vendor coordination, customer service, produce sales, staff management, and farm-to-market logistics. The ideal candidate has previous experience vending at and/or managing a farmers market stall or booth and understands the day-to-day realities of setting up, operating, and breaking down a market.
This position requires someone who can confidently work independently, communicate clearly, solve problems as they arise, and maintain a professional and welcoming presence while representing Frog Bench Farms.
Position Offering : Year-round position
Compensation : Hourly, Commensurate with experience.
Work Schedule : Thursday through Sunday, with rotating Saturday Farmers Market responsibilities.
Approximately 40 hours per week
Market days may require adjusted hours based on market schedules, setup, breakdown, and transportation needs.
Minimum one-year commitment preferred.
Farmers Market Experience Requirement
Previous farmers market vending or stall management experience is required.

Market Operations
Manage the operations of the Farmers Market from setup through breakdown at every applicable market.Coordinate market preparation, transportation, loading, unloading, setup, sales, cleanup, and breakdown.Ensure all necessary products, supplies, equipment, signage, payment systems, and market materials are prepared before each market.Coordinate and communicate market responsibilities and vendor placement to appropriate team members.Maintain a clean, organized, professional, and welcoming market presence.Ensure the market area is clean and free of trash and litter during and after the market.Monitor inventory throughout the market and communicate product needs or shortages to management.Ensure products are properly handled, displayed, and stored throughout the market.Maintain and properly care for market equipment, tools, tables, tents, displays, and supplies.
Vendor Management & Relationships
Maintain positive and professional relationships with all market vendors.
Ensure vendors understand and comply with applicable market regulations.
Review and evaluate market applications when applicable.
Communicate vendor placement and market expectations clearly and effectively.
Serve as a point of contact for vendor questions and routine issues.
Help resolve vendor concerns or operational issues that arise during market operations.
Maintain current knowledge of market rules, requirements, and training.
Maintain positive working relationships with market management and other participating vendors.
Staff Coordination
Provide clear and effective direction and guidance to market support staff.
Coordinate staff responsibilities before, during, and after each market.
Ensure staff understand expectations for setup, sales, customer service, product handling, cleanup, and breakdown.
Train and support market staff in appropriate market procedures and customer service.
Address routine staff issues and communicate significant concerns to management.
Maintain a respectful, organized, and productive team environment.
Customer Service & Sales
Represent Frog Bench Farms professionally and enthusiastically at the market.
Sell produce and other farm products directly to customers.
Answer customer questions about products, varieties, availability, growing practices, and the farm.
Enter and process customer orders accurately.
Maintain an approachable, knowledgeable, and positive customer service presence.
Help customers understand Frog Bench Farms’ products and sustainable growing practices.
Promote the use of nutrition assistance programs such as SNAP/EBT when applicable.
Handle customer concerns professionally and communicate significant issues to management.
Regulatory & Agency Relationships
Maintain professional relationships with the Utah Health Department, Finance, Code Administration, and other applicable City, County, State, and regulatory agencies.
Ensure market operations comply with applicable market and regulatory requirements.
Maintain required licenses, certifications, and training.
Follow all applicable State, County, City, UDAF, OSHA, CDC, food safety, and market requirements.
Market Financial & Administrative Responsibilities
Track fee revenue and expenditures related to market operations.
Maintain accurate records related to market operations.
Accurately process customer transactions and orders.
Communicate discrepancies, unusual expenses, customer concerns, or other financial issues to management.
Assist with tracking market inventory, expenses, sales-related information, and operational needs.
II. FARM & PRODUCE RESPONSBILITIES
Although the primary focus of this position is farmers market operations, the Farmers Market Liaison is expected to understand and participate in the farm-to-market process.
Responsibilities may include:
Assisting with planting and maintaining heirloom vegetables, herbs, fruits, and other crops following recognized sustainable growing practices.
Harvesting, washing, packaging, storing, and preparing produce for market.
Maintaining produce quality and presentation from harvest through sale.
Assisting with farm cleanup, weeding, watering, planting, and other farm projects as needed.
Understanding basic irrigation and notifying management of irrigation issues.
Maintaining farming and market equipment and notifying management when supplies are low or equipment requires attention.
Driving a farm vehicle for deliveries or market-related transportation when required.
Taking stewardship of the land, plants, products, and environment seriously.
Helping develop and discuss practical and innovative strategies for small-acreage farming and direct-to-consumer sales.
III. COMMUNICATION & TEAM EXPECTATIONSFARM & PRODUCE RESPONSBILITIES
The Farmers Market Liaison must be an effective communicator who can work with customers, vendors, market managers, farm staff, and management.
The position requires the ability to:
Follow written and verbal directions and ask questions when expectations are unclear.
Work independently without constant supervision.
Communicate issues proactively rather than waiting for problems to escalate.
Use Slack and other required communication systems.
Provide timely updates to management regarding market operations, staffing, inventory, customer concerns, and vendor issues.
Work effectively as part of a small, tight-knit team.
IV. APPLICANT MUST HAVE THE ABILITY TO
Demonstrate previous farmers market vending and/or stall management experience.
Confidently set up, operate, and break down a farmers market booth.
Work independently and make appropriate decisions in a fast-paced environment.
Manage and direct support staff.
Communicate professionally with vendors, customers, market management, and regulatory agencies.
Lift and move market equipment, produce, and supplies.
Use common farm and market tools and equipment.
Understand basic produce handling and food safety practices.
Maintain accurate records and follow established procedures.
Learn and follow Frog Bench Farms’ Best Management Practices and Employee Manual.
Be receptive to learning new farming, market, sales, and operational methods.
Maintain a current, valid driver’s license.
Acquire and maintain an active Food Handler’s License.
Work outdoors in varying weather conditions.
Maintain a positive attitude and professional demeanor during long or physically demanding market days.
Physical Demands & Working Conditions
This position is physically demanding and requires:
Walking and standing for extended periods.
Reaching, stooping, squatting, bending, and lifting.
Lifting up to 50 pounds.
Loading and unloading vehicles.
Moving tables, tents, crates, produce, displays, and other market equipment.
Working indoors and outdoors in hot, cold, wet, and changing weather conditions.
Working on uneven surfaces.
Working in a fast-paced environment where priorities may change throughout the day.
Health & Safety
Follow all applicable State, County, City, UDAF, OSHA, CDC, food safety, and market requirements.
Maintain quality and health safety standards for farm production, harvesting, storage, transportation, and market sales.
Follow proper sanitation and produce handling procedures.
Properly maintain and store equipment, supplies, and chemicals.
Report safety concerns, injuries, equipment issues, food safety concerns, or other hazards to management promptly.
Take personal responsibility for maintaining a safe work environment for yourself, coworkers, vendors, and customers.
Preferred Experience & Qualifications
Previous farmers market vending or stall management experience — required.
Experience managing a farmers market booth or team — strongly preferred.
One or more years of farming, greenhouse, horticulture, produce sales, or related experience — preferred.
Experience growing, harvesting, or handling vegetables, herbs, flowers, or other agricultural products.
Knowledge of produce quality, post-harvest handling, and direct-to-consumer sales.
General knowledge of soil, plant needs, planting, transplanting, seeding, harvesting, and weed/pest management.
Experience with farm or market equipment and hand tools.
Experience with SNAP/EBT or other nutrition assistance programs — a plus.
Microgreen growing knowledge — a plus.
Experience working with vendors, community organizations, regulatory agencies, or farmers market organizations — a plus.

Frog Bench Farms (FBF)® is a sustainable urban farm nestled into the Wasatch foothills of Salt Lake City. Since 2012, we have grown approximately 1.5 acres of high-quality vegetables, herbs, fruits, nuts, micro/petite greens, and edible flowers.
Whenever possible, our plants start from seed. We utilize cold frames, low and high hoop houses, and our 2,800-square-foot greenhouse to grow and sell products to restaurants and the public year-round.
